    Aplazan despidos de 7.000 empleados públicos en Puerto Rico

    SAN JUAN (AP) - El gobierno de Puerto Rico informó el martes que debió aplazar para enero el despido de 7.191 trabajadores gubernamentales debido a una irregularidad en el proceso de notificación.

    El cese de los trabajadores es parte de unos 17.000 empleados públicos cuyos puestos de trabajo serán recortados debido un plan de ajuste fiscal del gobierno.

    El presidente de la Junta de Reestructuración y Estabilización Fiscal (JREF) Carlos García indicó que en varias dependencias no se cumplió con el proceso legal de notificar a los empleados de que serían despedidos, lo cual se enmendará.

    "El efecto neto de este proceso de renotificación a empleados unionados (sindicalizados) es que unas 7.191 cesantías que hubieran sido efectivas este viernes 6 de noviembre de 2009, serán efectivas en enero de 2010. Estos empleados deberán recibir una notificación a tales efectos antes de este viernes", dijo García en comunicado de prensa.

    "No se anticipa que este proceso de renotificación vaya a afectar sustancialmente el número de cesantías, sino que extenderá por 60 días la fecha de efectividad de las mismas", agregó.
