    Protestan latinos en campaña de Joe Arpaio en California

    San Diego, (Notimex).- Joe Arpaio, el alguacil de Maricopa, Arizona, conocido por sus posiciones antiinmigrantes, finalizó hoy aquí actos de campaña en apoyo de dos candidatos a alguaciles para los comicios de 2010 en California, en medio de protestas de latinos.

    En su primera actividad en California, Arpaio se presentó la víspera en la campaña del candidato a alguacil del conservador condado de Orange, Bill Hunt, en Anaheim, donde decenas de manifestantes lo esperaban con pancartas con frases como "somos humanos".

    Arpaio ha realizado polémicas declaraciones, como cuando afirmó que gastaba unos 20 centavos de dólar por día en alimentar a un indocumentado preso y unos 50 centavos para dar de comer a alguno de los sabuesos entrenados de la dependencia a su cargo.

    Este sábado, el alguacil de Maricopa asistió al acto de campaña en San Diego de Jay LaSure, uno de los seis aspirantes a dirigir ese condado.

    "Arpaio es ciertamente un ejemplo de debieran seguir todos los alguaciles en Estados Unidos", sostuvo LaSure durante su acto de campaña, en el que algunos asistentes protestaron por la presencia del alguacil de Maricopa con pancartas con la palabra "terrorista".

    "Arpaio es responsables de las peores humillaciones, de los actos más deshumanizantes contra la población mexicana y latina en el condado de Maricopa, en Arizona", afirmó el activista de la organización Unión del Barrio, Bryan Constantino.

    El mes pasado, el Departamento de Seguridad Interior (DHS) de Estados Unidos le ordenó a Arpaio suspender los operativos en los que personas eran arrestadas solamente por su estatus migratorio.

    Arpaio ha sido acusado además de dejar de perseguir a cerca de 10 mil delincuentes, muchos de ellos asesinos, asaltantes y violadores, por dedicarse a buscar indocumentados.
